Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Raisins and Popcorn Kernels - Section 2: Investigation Preparation & Summary

The key to student understanding in this lesson is the connection to prior knowledge. It is like building a bridge to help students build an understanding of new information.

Most students have had some personal experience with a life preserver. They may have worn one or seen others with a life preserver.

The CObubbles act like mini life preservers. Students understand how life preservers work so it is easier for them to see how the bubbles are like life preservers.

Once the connection to life preservers has been established it is much easier to begin the discussion about how they work.
