Reflection: Parent Communication Diving Deeper Into Asking & Answering Questions - Section 1: Enroll Students Into Learning

 

I have to say that the idea for a "virtual field trip" is not my own, original idea!  I got this idea from a workshop I attended a few years back!  I tried this out by making one virtual field trip to start and just watched to see what my students thought about it.  My students LOVED this, and their parents would contact me too and say things like, "That website you made is so cool!  My son really loves going on it at home and it helped him review what he's learning in school so well!"  After that overwhelming response, I decided I would focus on creating these virtual field trips as part of my professional growth plan, which is part of my evaluation conducted by my principal.  Please know: the virutal field trips take a while to create (or at least they take ME a while to create!), and I've gained a small database of them over the past few years as I put them together in my "spare" time!  Even though they can be time consuming, I definitely think they're worth creating since they contribute so much to my students' learning!

Objective: SWBAT formulate questions to demonstrate understanding, refer explicitly to the text to answer questions, and use various text features to location key ideas or information.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students will get to delve into digital informational text to further explore finding answers for their own questions about oceans.
