Reflection: Student Led Inquiry Straws and Balls - Section 4: Explore

 

As I was circulating amongst the groups, I noticed one group that said they couldn't get the super ball to move.  I asked them what would happen if they both were to blow on the ball (video clip).  They tried it and understood that they blew more air to make it move but couldn't quite connect it to the idea that a greater force was needed to move a heavier object.  I continued to work with them to help them make the connection.  I felt like they were close and just needed a guided discussion to make the connection.

Objective: SWBAT discuss and connect to the the idea the different amounts of force can change the speed and direction of of an object in motion.

Big Idea: The students will use a variety of balls and straws to move balls across the floor or table.
