Reflection: Vertical Alignment It's Apple Season!! - Section 2: Engage

Teaching students to read critically is the new wave of education. This really goes hand in hand with science.  Not only should students be able to read critically with literature selections, but they should be able to with non-fiction as well.  Non-fiction is what scientists spend their day working with all the time.  In fact, I hear from many higher level science teachers that they spend a good portion of their teaching time explaining and teaching students how to read science text critically.  SP8 - directly says that students should read grade-appropriate texts to determine patterns in and /or evidence about the natural world.

I take the passage from Read Works and add sentence questions that will elicit dialogue in the classroom with the students.  I want this work on those Common Core skills that really are tied so closely to the NGSS.
