Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Regions of Arizona - Section 2: Identifying and Reading a Map

 

The above task, allows the students to explore the map while confirming their reading along the way. It makes their reading and note taking process more relevant to their learning. I even tell my students that as they get older they have to connect their reading and writing to all different subjects. Connecting to our reading to the map helps us understand the purpose of the map and aides in our overall understanding.

Unit 4: Water and Weathering
Lesson 15 of 17

Objective: SWBAT create a topographical map of Arizona focusing on mountains, plateaus, deserts, canyons, and rivers.

Big Idea: To understand the effects weathering, plate tectonics, and erosion students will recreate a 3D map out of salt dough to see how drastic these events have shaped our state.
