Reflection: High Quality Task Photosynthesis: Movie! - Section 6: Extension

One thing that always trips me up with projects is not providing enough clarity.  This assignment is a good example of how a little more clarity would have helped students more!  The re-teaching assignment was fairly straightforward and easy to understand.  It was a chance for students to simply show their learning in a linear way.  I found that my other group had some major confusion about how to accomplish their task.  After seeing them struggle for a while, I pulled the whole group into the back of the room and went through a quick food chain.  Then inside the food chain, I showed photosynthesis.  Then, I connected the idea of matter cycling throughout the system.  Finally, I rewrote the prompt.  The new prompt was, "Show how matter is produced in a food chain and how it travels from one organism to another and cycles through the system."  This was much more clear and they were more successful.
