Reflection: Discourse and Questioning Photosynthesis: Discovery! - Section 6: Discussion

A few weeks ago as I was looking at a video of my students, I realized that my students were NOT having high-level conversations with each other. I was offering many opportunities for turn and talk and table talk and think pair share and more...but students would talk as quickly and shallowly as possible. I decided to institute sentence starters for discussions and a process for self-evaluation.

So far, I have seen a great improvement in the level of discourse between the students. I'm trying to work towards students ask their own high level of questions and then answering them in unique and authentic discussions.
