Reflection: Student Ownership What is Citizen Science? Deep Dive (2 of 2) - Section 2: Citizen Science: Deep Dive

The primary purpose of digital publication tools like Padlet is to foster student ownership of work products as a gateway to student ownership of the process of peer review.  In this activity, I noticed a much higher level of engagement and care over the work product than a more traditional poster activity, likely because of the instant publication to the whole class.  Students were less invested in the process of providing critical assessments of peer work, but the social dynamics of peer review are complicated even in adult life, and I know that student ownership of the peer review process will be a longer process.

Lesson 2 of 13

Objective: Students will be able to: 1) articulate the connection between citizen science skills and future careers; 2) participate in an online discussion about citizen science; 3) explain and evaluate Earthwatch citizen science projects; and 4) present an informational summary to the class using technology
