Reflection: Student Ownership Introducing Engineering - Section 2: Take-off (Warm-up)

 

Anchor charts should truly be that-- an anchor for the learning.  Whether generated by students or used and referred to by students, anchor charts should be interactive.  By creating this Engineering Design Process graphic with pictures, I am enabling nonreaders to make sense of each step.  I am also giving students a visual to the fact that there are multiple steps in order in this process.  This is an Anchor Chart that will remain in my room over our remaining science units that include engineering!

Objective: SWBAT mimic an external part of a bird in order to solve a human problem.

Big Idea: Eww! There is something gross under the cafeteria table. Pick it up-- no, you pick it up! How about we mimic a bird's beak to solve the problem of picking up our trash?
