Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Setting the Stage - Section 2: Independent Practice

 

The settings poster was key to helping my students work through various elements that make up the setting. Before, they would simply focus on location. Now they had other elements to consider such as time of day, season, and weather. For example, for the anchor text, The Ballad of Mulan, students extended their view of the setting by determining that it took place ‘long ago in the Black Mountains of China.'
