Reflection: Discourse and Questioning Bats are Mammals, Not Birds! - Section 4: Wrap Up


The closure of a lesson is as important as the opening because if it is carefully planned, it will get students thinking ahead to what the next lesson will be about. Today, I chose to do this by combining the information we learned about squirrels yesterday with the new information about bats. My hope was that this verbal, quick comparison of the two mammals would provide additional excitement for tomorrow's lesson and also give another layer of review for students who need it. I lead the conversation with questions and the students volunteer answers. I love how my students have their faces buried in their Fact Sheets as they try to answer the questions! Watch as we comparing bats and squirrels to end this lesson together.
