Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Meet Rosina Day 3 of 3 - Section 3: Debriefing: What do Rosina's actions say about her?

 

In doing this lesson again, what would I do differently?

I would make sure to integrate writing to help my students with their conceptual understanding of the informational text. I would ask them a rigorous question to help develop their critical thinking skills too.

My students had a hard time how to answer the questions today because the question started with how and included the word describe.

I took time to explain describe but as English Language Learners, describe is a word that is challenging. 

One thing to help them feel comfortable with that concept is to keep practicing it and practice it in various ways.

Thus, I would have write about:

•How is Rosina's school life and home life like yours?

At this point of the year, I would have to supply a linguistic pattern. One that would work would read:

Rosina's home life is like mine because________________.

It would challenge some of them that I would need to work with a small group to give them more direction. Others would rise and all would get more comfortable with explaining. In doing this lesson again, I would definitely incorporate this.
