Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Meet Rosina Day 2 of 3 - Section 3: Debriefing

This lesson takes place very early in the year and that is one of the reasons for the short length. Upon reflection, how would I make this lesson into a more rigorous lesson and further help my students develop their conceptual understanding of Rosina and how she meets the challenge of being deaf?

One way is to integrate a deeper discussion and then writing. After reading the selection, I would have them discuss, what they learned about Rosina in this section.

Then, I would ask them to write about how is school and home life are for her? This would allow them to synthesize the storyline and possibly make connections about how regular her life is. It would have been interesting to have given them this task. In doing this lesson again, I would definitely integrate these two tasks.

Allowing them to discuss and write allows my second language learners to internalize the learning on a deeper level.
