Reflection: Learning Communities Learning to Learn Together - Section 4: Elaborate

Grouping my students was an easy task because at the beginning of the school year, we were able to create a cohesive learning community.  This year, this group of students are very kind hearted. This overall group characteristic means that the students care about one another and they get along with each other.  In my opinion, this characteristic is the foundational trait that will influence student success.  Students who can work together permit learning to take place in the classroom.

However, I must admit that two of my students, who attended Pre-K, already have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that address behavioral disorders.  Their behavior disorders can interfere with learning if I do not practice "wittiness."  As you may know, withitness is a teacher's ability to constantly monitor student behavior in the classroom using gestures, eye contact, signals, etc. The students also know that the teacher is monitioring their behavior and they respond positively to correction.
