Reflection: Standardized Tests (PARCC/Smarter Balanced) Intro to Trigonometry / What is Similarity? - Section 2: What is Trigonometry? / About this Class

Finally, the bottom corner of the Course Syllabus says "+, a note on Regents Prep...". I am writing from New York, where the annual state high school exams are called the Regents.  Students must pass the Integrated Algebra exam to graduate from high school.  After that, the Geometry and Algebra 2 & Trigonometry exams are optional but required for an "advanced Regents" diploma.  This course is for a mixed-ability group of students who are at different stages in their math Regents passage.  It is designed to help older students who have struggled with the Integrated Algebra exam to get the pieces they need to pass it; this course is also the second semester of a three-semester sequence that will prepare students for the Algebra 2 & Trig exam.  I explain all of this to students to help them get situated.

Unit 5: Trigonometry: Triangles
Lesson 1 of 9

Objective: SWBAT build background knowledge for defining the trigonometric ratios as properties of the angles in a right triangle.

Big Idea: It all starts with vocabulary! The study of words and how precisely we can use them is one of the key structures introduced as this course begins.
