Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Components of a Book - Section 4: Collaborative Activity

I consider my students lucky to attend a district where the Visual and Performing Arts are considered important.  Through Young Audiences of San Diego Visual and Performing program, my students hear and play several different instruments.  This year, with the emphasis on transitioning to common core, the VAPA program is integrating common core standards into their program as well.  For many years I have included adding movement to my transitions, but this year, in working with VAPA, I am exploring ways to include more music and singing during transitions and into content learning.  There is a lot of research that supports music helps children retain information, facilitates learning other subjects, and enhances skills used to learn.
