Reflection: Routines and Procedures Triple Beam Balance Introductory Activity - Section 3: Student Lesson

 

To ease student intimidation with new equipment I use familiar storybook references to describe the 100g, 10g, and 1g weights. In essence they are the big, medium, and small weights on the triple-beams. At this age, students have very little experience with grams. Using storybook references (papa bear, mama bear, baby bear) transitions them into using complex terms and equipment.
