Reflection: Rigor Understand Points on the Coordinate Plane (Day 1) - Section 2: Guided Practice


Practice Standard 3 requires students to “construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.” Teachers need to model and set parameters for classroom discussions. Sometimes teachers don't actually teach this due to time or classroom management issues. Students at all grades can listen or read the arguments of others, decide whether they make sense, and ask useful questions to clarify or improve the arguments. This needs to be explicitly taught though. Our school has been teaching CCSS for a few years now, but my students still need explicit practice with extending their responses beyond simple a "yeah" or "nah".
