Reflection: Rigor History of the Atom - Section 2: Engage

Modeling is a very important practice in chemistry and is emphasized in the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices.  The unit on atoms is a great place to introduce students to the idea of models and how they are helpful to better understand and explain phenomenon.  This video shows how I introduce my students to modeling in my classroom.

History of the Atom

Unit 2: Unit 2: Matter, Atoms, and the Periodic Table
Lesson 4 of 11

Objective: Students will be able to model the atom and explain how theories regarding the atom have changed throughout history as demonstrated by taking notes, watching videos, drawing models, and analyzing models.

Big Idea: Scientists have investigated atoms throughout history which has led to many changes regarding our understanding of the structure of the atom.
