Reflection: Coaching and Mentoring Systems Prior Knowledge Part 2 - Section 7: Independent Practice

I sat down with one of my mentors, Sarah Branstiter, to talk about our work with cross curricular writing.  Sarah and I are trying to get writing used consistently in content classes like Science and Social Studies.  Last year, we looked at three different types of writing that would embed easily and authentically into content.

1) Writing to  Think

2) Readable Writing

3) Polished Writing

This year I am starting my science department off with discussions of the purpose and use of writing to think.  Our goal is to intentionally embed quality writing opportunities 3-4 times a week in class.
