Reflection: Lesson Planning Making Stronger Predictions, Inferences, and Conclusions - Section 2: Introduction

 

I have never taught this lesson before.  In the past I have always relied on the anthology texts, teacher guides, and student data to drive my instruction.  However, I have noticed when I teach, or try to teach to the common core anchor standards, my students are much more capable than I give them credit.  They are able to do so much more, especially after a few introductory lessons.

I have also learned the value of using other reading resources other than the district adopted ELA series.  The anthologies are good for introducing the concept; however to go deeper, and to increase student vocabulary, I am finding it much easier to create a lesson with a more text rich story using the Common Core standards.
