Reflection: Shared Expectations How Long? A Fishy "Tail" - Section 3: Guided Instruction

When having the kids do any activity, make sure they understand the goals and expectations of what they are doing. It is important that they know what they should be walking away being able to do and know how they are to act while they are doing it. Using "I can..." statements provides the students an opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning.

Making sure performance expectations and clear procedures are in place from the first day of school ensures student success throughout the year. Explain to the kids with every lesson what you want them to do and how you want it done.
