Reflection: Lesson Planning Introduction to the Rock Cycle - Section 3: Rock Cycle Activity

As will be mentioned in a later lesson (see: Lesson 1.7), there are very specific mandates that we implement while unit planning. One of those such mandates is to teach a lesson primarily through the use of technology, specifically by having students interact with it in some fashion. While this sometimes involves testing or using scientific equipment to conduct a lab or make observations, it very much often involves computers to find, observe, discover, or interpret information. Given the scope of the Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), the technology tie-ins are increasingly important in such a technologically advanced world. Additionally, while many students have a basic facility with phones, iPods, and computer software, they still need direct instruction and exposure to some of the more technical programs and software types found in scientific settings.
