Reflection: Shared Expectations Short Story Assessment, With Choice: Selecting and Reading Texts (1 of 3) - Section 3: Read, Read and Read Again

Wowzer.  Many students struggled with the reading time today.  One student told me he has never had to read anything more than once and he reads at a college reading level.  Oh goodness. I'm not going to change the assessment because I believe that in order to fully understand a text so that you can write about it, you need to read it more than once, and annotate it as well. I think I need to do a better job tomorrow explaining the importance of reading something multiple times.  Just because something is uncomfortable for the students doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile; hopefully, this can be  a learning experience for my students by the end of the assessment.
