Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge How Many More to 10? - Section 2: Direct Instruction

Don't skip the warm up! Whether you're sure the kids know the information needed to accomplish the task or not, don't skip the warm up! It gets your kids thinking about math and feeling successful before they are challenged and raised to the next level. Warming them up gets their brains in gear and allows them to feel like they are on the same page with you before you begin the challenging work. This is especially important for your ELL and low achievers. Those kids need the extra review and support before venturing to the next level.
