Reflection: Routines and Procedures Organizing the Ideas: Day 2 of 2 - Section 4: Independent Work

One thing we know as teachers is writing is difficult for students, that is why it is so important to meet with each student during the writing block to review and edit what they have produced on paper.  However, once students see you are calling up students to review their work, they want to go too.  The next thing you know there is a long playful line of students waiting to meet with you.

That is why I put my students in a Writing Rotation where they go to different work areas.  While they are in a work area with a direction of what they are to be doing, they are less likely to form a line and play.  This helps with the noise level and looks much more organized when the principal makes his/her daily visit.
