Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Cause and Effect in a Student’s Life - Section 5: Independent Practice

 

As this unit comes to a close and I am reflecting back I realize that I should have included a lesson on cause and effect signal words, which include: because, so, as a result, since, and, therefore.  Knowing these signal words would help my student identify cause and effect events in future readings, as well as in their writing.

After reading my students' journals I was satisfied that nearly all of my students were able to relate at least two cause and effect events.  A few, from the advanced group were able to relate three.  My Beginning Reading group was challenged by the writing part of this activity.  To help them become more independent I will have to include more scaffolding writing activities.
