Reflection: Lesson Planning C is for cooler, cops and cooperating - Section 1: Why C?

As kindergarten teachers, we spend a lot of time trying to think about "what might happen..." this is one of the reasons we are so good for our babies!  Using our knowledge of our students and their ages, it is easy for us to see some certain obstacles prior to teaching a lesson!  With this lesson, we already know that /c/ is a hard sound because students confuse it with the /s/ sound; after all, the letter name C begins with the /s/ sound!  When we know things like this that might be difficult for our students, it is important that we teach against them.  Basically, we don't want to teach and then wonder if our kids will get mixed up-- we should teach them ahead of time to not get mixed up!  If we don't want our students to fall, it is crucial that we help provide them with stepping stones wherever possible.  Within this lesson, it is only to our benefit to show our kids where not to fall with the /s/ versus the /c/.
