Reflection: ELL Students Positions- Reveiw Positional Terms - Section 1: Problem of the Day


I have one student in my class whose primary language is not English.  I was surprised how great he was at this.  I was expecting him to need a lot of support learning these terms and their meanings, but he mastered them quickly and was helping the other students.  It is great to think about what students may struggle with a certain concept or skill and have a plan on how to help them, but I love when I am wrong and those student blow me away!

Unit 4: Positions and Shapes

Objective: Students will be able to describe the relative positions of objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.

Big Idea: Describing the position of objects is an important math skill, and it is also something students will use in their everyday lives. In this lesson, students will show what they learned about positional vocabulary in a variation of the "Where is it?" game.
