Reflection: Performance Tasks The Verdict for Friar Lawrence is...Wrapping up Romeo and Juliet - Section 2: Application: Mock Trial

WOW! I was so impressed with my students' participation as attorneys. One student that hadn't really participated much during the school year, volunteered to be the defense attorney for one class. I was shocked that he wanted to speak in front of the class because I had never heard him do so. When he got up, I was holding my breath, but when he began his eloquent opening statement, I EXHALED! What a shock.

After class, I asked him if he wanted to be an attorney, and he said that he hadn't thought about it. My response: THINK ABOUT IT! This was a student that I had pulled to the side earlier this year to ask him if he was enjoying the class because his affect was always so flat. I have been amazed by kids this year, but this one took the cake. I'm so proud of all of them.
