Reflection: Real World Applications Oh Me! Applying Measurement,Multiplication & Fraction Skills to Make a "Me" Person. Day 2 - Section 2: Measuring Height, Hands & Feet to Finish

As students completed their "Me" person, I marveled at how I could pick out and match the person with the model! Measuring, double checking and thinking went on here as we worked to create something as close to our size and looks using our measurement and conversion skills. I loved watching a student figure out whether he needed to use the measuring tape or the yard stick. When he used the measuring tape, he also knew how to read the feet and inches on the tape. When he did the calculations he was amazed that what he read on the tape and what he calculated were the same. It was fun to see students realize their feet and hands do not measure the same. This deepens the meaning of being able to measure and apply their skill. While the first day focused on the accuracy of drawing their faces, the second day was more relaxed as they applied measuring skills and conversion skills they had already learned.
