Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Closing Reading: Vaulting over Vocabulary Hurdles Part II- Context Clues - Section 3: Independent Practice

This lesson may not be a new invention but it does allow students to see how context clues really don't define all unfamiliar words. Because of this revelation, this may be the sole reason why students do not gravitate to using this technique with reading literature. From the text-dependent vocabulary words given in this lesson, here is the answers to the vocabulary activity. When looking over the sample, you will notice that the clues in context give either an example or synonym of what each vocabulary word meant. Because of this, students may have a higher chance in correctly define words if asked in a multiple-choice question type. I definitely will do this lesson again especially with non-fiction text that are so text heavy with content=specific vocabulary.
