Reflection: High Expectations Literary Language Continued -Lesson 5 of Cinder Book Three - Section 3: Lesson

I have very high expectations of my students, and they know.  However, often I will have students who try to monopolize the classroom and take those high expectations (and the glory of that) on themselves instead of sharing them with the rest of the class.

An activity involving students in front of the classroom, like in today's lesson, brings out those personalities. Because I already did this activity once this year, I made note of who got up so I can remind them of that today.  I will purposefully keep those students seated and ask others to step up. I find that this communicates to my "background" students that I have high expectations for all students - not just my "showboats", and lets those who like to be seen know that they will support, not over shadow others.
