Reflection: Performance Tasks Biography: Taking Brief Notes - Section 3: Assessment

 

It is important to assess students at every step of the research process. At times, students’ notes were too brief. If they are too brief, the student will not know what it means when it time to write the report. For example, a student wrote the phrase, “First one.” When I asked first one to what, she was not sure what it meant. I had her locate it in the book and read the sentence. It read, “She was the first woman to attend medical school.” I understood the she did not want to write most of the sentence, but enough had to be written to get the gist. We decided together ‘first woman medical student’ conveyed the same information without copying the sentence.
