Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Elements of a Gothic Novel - Section 2: Defining Gothic


I think this lesson is successful because it gave students lots of practice and allowed them to create a clear set of steps for analyzing gothic style. 

Almost all of the students completed the in-class essay because they had a clear understanding of what they were looking for in the text.  

If time permits I would share samples of some of the other gothic novels to give students a better idea of the range of the gothic style.
