Reflection: Vertical Alignment Finding Rectangles - Section 2: Introduction to Finding Shapes

 

This is a task that can be challenging for first grade students.  It is not meant to be used as an assessment piece but rather used to to help students practice recognizing rectangles and trying to find as many as they can.  This is a precursor for the 2nd and 3rd grade standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.1 and CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.1.

Unit 17: Shapes, Blocks, and Attributes
Lesson 4 of 5

Objective: SWBAT compose and decompose polygons to make rectangles.

Big Idea: Students will look for as many rectangles as they can from a given set of shapes. The students will find as many solutions as they can.
