Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Making it Real - Section 5: Independent Practice

This was one of the first times I did not give my students a written journal prompt starter. I was curious what my students would do without a journal prompt.  I was impressed by the number of students who either created or tried to create a topic, main idea, details organizer to help them write about keeping hermit crabs as pets.  Although the student samples featured do not go in a lot of creative depth, they demonstrate what nearly all my students tried to do on their own.  Which tells me they are carrying over what they learn and practice in their writing block time to their independent work.

The video Reflection: Student Writing is an excerpt from my personal reflection journal.
