## Reflection: Perseverance Choose an Operation - Section 3: Independent Practice

In this lesson, it really tested the perseverance of students.  Many times, the students didn't think through the problem and just guessed.  I had to guide them through thinking aloud when trying to determine whether they should add or subtract.  Once they formed the habit of asking "What information do I need to find?" and "What information do I have to help me solve the problem" - they realized that it was very easy to solve the problems.
