Reflection: Trust and Respect An Introduction to the Bubble Map - Section 4: Closure

 

I teach all the Thinking Maps at the beginning of the year, not only to lay the foundation for future lessons, but it's also a wonderful way to establish a positive classroom community.  Students loved sharing their circle maps with each other yesterday and they wanted to share their adjectives about themselves with their classmates today.  When I saw the children sharing with each other, I realized we were also setting the foundation for our speaking and listening standards.  They were looking at each other and taking turns and were so engaged as they listened to each other.  I plan on having my students talk to each other a great deal this year in our lessons so I was happy to see that students started to share their maps with students that weren't necessarily their best friends.  I was happy to see that students were building that trust between each other as they shared their maps.

An Introduction to the Bubble Map

Unit 9: Introducing Thinking Maps

Objective: SWBAT use a bubble map in order to describe themselves.

Big Idea: Students will learn that a bubble map is always used to describe a noun. They will learn how to use this map with content they can already describe - themselves.
