Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Trigonometric Ratios of General Angles - Section 1: Warm-up and Homework Review

 

In this warm up, the mathematics alone is a relatively simple review from the previous day’s lesson.  What makes it a high quality problem is the open ended question at the end.  This provides the students an opportunity to show what they understand about sine and cosine in similar triangles.  All of my student samples 1, 2, 3, and 4 demonstrate a certain amount of understanding.  It really helped to have students share with each other.  One idea for sharing out is having groups of four share with each other and pick their favorite.  That favorite is then shared with the class.

Objective: Students will be able to find the trigonometric ratios of any angle on a coordinate plane.

Big Idea: It doesn't matter how many times you turn around or how dizzy you get, you can still find a trig ratio.
