Reflection: Relevance Eating Fractions - Section 2: Cooking with Fractions

The purpose of this lesson is to help students to see how fractions are used in everyday life. There is not an exact Common Core match, but I feel that the lesson is a valuable one in helping students to have an opportunity to really use fractions in a meaningful way.

Sometimes we need to think outside the box and find ways to engage students in a meaningful experience even if it is somewhat outside the Common Core standards. It is important for teachers to remember that the Common Core Standards are basic guidelines. It is ok to move beyond them to meet the needs and interests of our students.
