Reflection: Complex Tasks Close Read: My Brother Martin - Key Ideas and Details - Section 5: Individual Project

Citing evidence from the text to back up an answer seems simple enough of a task.  Yet it is a complex task for students.  All year long we practice, I model, we practice some more, I reteach, we practice some more.  By the end of the year, I still have students who struggle with being able to back up their answers with evidence from the text.  Most of them eventually understand what it is we are asking them to do, but it is definitely a skill that must be practiced over and over during the year.
