## Reflection: Checks for Understanding Modeling Rational Functions - Section 1: Warm up and Homework Review

I was surprised at the answers to today’s warm up.  I was expected solutions in context like Warm Up 1.  What I got almost entirely centered on imaginary numbers like Warm Up 2.  Looking back, we have just covered complex numbers so it makes sense.  I think my students are still getting comfortable with the contextual problems in our Common Core transition so also makes sense that they wouldn't immediately turn to a real life situation.  Using imaginary numbers or a context isn't necessarily better or worse but referring back to a context better prepares them for the day's lesson.  Maybe next year I will ask them to find two situations or specify a real life situation.
