Reflection: Positive Reinforcement Analysis of Non-Western Cultural Perspectives - Section 1: Let's Get Started: Don't Kill the Messenger

Tucson High is a visual and performing arts magnet.  For a fundraiser, the advanced mariachi class sold valentine grams. My class brought one for me.  It is a love song which is a bit silly, but fun.  I hope you enjoy it.

Tucson High is a performing arts magnet. The mariachi program is a substantial part of that magnet.  Many of the students in the program perform with a mariachi groups outside of school.  Mariachi is ingrained in Tucson culture. Any reason to celebrate is a reason to hire a mariachi group. Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and funerals, there is an appropriate mariachi song for all occasions.  By inviting the mariachi class to our room, the students were celebrating our learning community. It was a beautiful moment.

It took a few minutes to get back on track. It is not easy to go from a love song to talking about a tragic suicide. However since my students value the class, they eventually refocused.
