Reflection: Diverse Entry Points How Can You Be An Earth Helper? - Section 5: Our Independent Work

When my reading coach taught me this process of how to really get students to comprehend and respond to text I was amazed at how this simple chart, Common Words in Writing Responses.pdf, could really help my students deepen their understanding of the text.  It seems like such a simple change, but I could tell how much the differentiated work benefited my students.  I had never thought to differentiate the work product in this way.  My students who needed a challenge received it, and those students who needed more support were able to show understanding by completing an assignment that appropriate for their ability level.  I will always use this particular chart to create differentiated assignments for my students in the future.
