Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Poetry About Things We Love; Odes - Section 1: Lesson Opener

I choose to use Ode to Autumn with students in order to expose them to a higher level text but I also gave them the resource sheet which has examples from past students. I was actually surprised how much my students liked Ode to Autumn. I thought they may gravitate towards the student examples, but many were referring back to Ode to Autumn and writing odes to summer and winter! This just goes to show that I should never assume students will not like a higher level text.
