Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge That's Not a Plant, It's a Weed! Discovering Functions of External Plant Parts; What Makes a Plant a Plant? - Section 2: Building Conceptual Understanding: KWL Strategy

As I transition to NGSS, developing inquiry is essential to the success of building critical thinking students. I want them to think about what they already know before they work on discovering truths about science. My students prior knowledge about plants is very limited because of their culture. They have noticed some details about plants as shown in their questioning. They have started to warm up in their thinking about plants. The debate helped them question their own thinking and I think their mindset is ready for the field experience.
