Reflection: ELL Students Group Discussion: Hear With the Ear - Section 2: Independent Practice


The talking chips were effective in helping my English language learners begin sentences in various ways. They invited them to ask questions they normally would not have asked because they did not have the vocabulary or sentence structure. The also chips provided the support needed to move beyond simple sentences and pat responses.

Objective: SWBAT follow agreed-upon rules for discussions, e.g., listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics under discussion by using talking chips.

Big Idea: Students worked in small groups to draw and label a model of the ear to explain how sound moves through the ear.
