Reflection: Real World Applications 100 Students Project: What If The World Were 100 People? - Section 4: Class Discussion

Although students are just analyzing statistics in this introduction lesson, it served as a great hook for the 100 Students Project.  Students generated a number of interesting questions, comments, and connections.  They were very interested in learning the worldwide statistics in the context of 100 people in the world.  One of the statistics that was most surprising to the students was the fact that if you have a roof over your head, a bed to sleep in, a refrigerator, and a closet you are wealthier than 75% of the world’s population.   My students were shocked to know that these things that seem basic to them were so rare worldwide.
