Reflection: Real World Applications Mission Possible - 5 Scenarios in 5 Days: Day #1 - Section 3: Know's/N2K's and Small Group Collaboration


One of the biggest struggles in (in terms of identifying a "Know") that my students faced was using precise terminology to identify what they are maximizing and minimizing.  The supporting documents that I have created in the upcoming lesson help the students to address this detail, if they initially overlook it or are "less than precise" with their language and terminology.  It is not uncommon for the students to have to go back and revisit their Know/N2K lists, and in fact, I encourage them to do so on a daily basis to make sure everything is accounted for, and they have no new information to add.  All of this is done withe the hope of "coaching" problem solving strategies in my classroom.

Unit 8: Functions, Problem Solving, and 21st Century Skills
Lesson 4 of 11

Objective: SWBAT create equations and inequalities to solve problems. SWBAT represent relationships between quantitates and constraints graphically. SWBAT interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options through the context of the mathematical model.

Big Idea: Students will work in small teams to solve a real world problem and present their findings in a whole-class business meeting!
